Local Dining Safety Check Reveals Multiple High Risk Violations Across Two Parishes

Dining out in the Shreveport and Bossier area recently came with some unexpected warnings after latest health department records revealed several establishments struggling with basic safety standards. Between September 28 and October 4, seven local eateries were flagged for having three or more critical health violations. According to the Louisiana Department of Health, these specific types of infractions are considered high risk because they can directly lead to food contamination or serious illness if they aren’t addressed immediately.

In Bossier, the issues spanned across popular spots including Sushiko, Saltgrass Steakhouse, and the Margaritaville Resort Casino Main Kitchen. Inspectors noted various concerns ranging from improper food temperatures and poor separation of raw meats to chemicals being stored dangerously close to kitchen equipment. Some findings were particularly concerning, such as reports of decomposed substances found at both Saltgrass and Margaritaville, though officials noted that most of these problems were corrected during the visit.

The situation was similar over in Caddo Parish, where four locations failed to meet the mark. Hunter Crab faced scrutiny for an employee storing a personal drink inside an ice machine, while Crawdaddy’s Kitchen dealt with dirty microwaves and improperly stored shrimp. Other sites like Kostas Inc and a Chevron convenience store struggled with repetitive failures regarding date marking for hazardous foods and maintaining proper refrigeration levels. One location even lacked a required state food safety certificate on file.

While these numbers might seem alarming to hungry locals, health officials remind the public that these inspections act as snapshots in time rather than permanent grades of how a restaurant operates every day. The state maintains a public dashboard so consumers can stay informed about where they eat, noting that many of these errors are fixed on the spot by management once pointed out by sanitarian services.
