False Claims Of Psychiatric Hospitalization Target Texas Candidate James Talarico

A series of viral allegations claiming that State Representative James Talarico was secretly admitted to a mental health facility in Ohio has been debunked by the institution involved and contradicted by clear timelines of the candidate’s movements. The rumors gained traction through several conservative influencers who suggested the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate vanished from the campaign trail due to a psychological breakdown, rather than the flu, which Talarico cited as the reason for his brief absence.

The controversy centered around posts from commentators like Nick Sortor and Rhein Amacher, who claimed to have proof of Talarico’s discharge from the Lindner Center of Hope in Mason, Ohio. Amacher released an audio clip of a phone call in which he allegedly posed as a family member to trick a staff member into confirming Talarico’s status. However, further investigation revealed that Amacher admitted to making up security codes during these attempts to bypass privacy laws and gain information from the clinic.

The Lindner Center eventually issued a definitive statement on social media clarifying that Representative Talarico has never received treatment at their facility. This denial was echoed by Talarico himself, who joked that he had never even stepped foot in the state of Ohio. A spokesperson for the candidate emphasized that these stories were merely lies designed to fuel conspiracy theories while Talarico was actually resting at home in Austin.

Beyond the center’s denial, the logistics of the accusation fall apart under scrutiny. While influencers claimed Talarico was being discharged from an Ohio hospital on October 10, documented evidence shows him attending the Austin City Limits music festival on October 9 and appearing elsewhere locally shortly thereafter. During a television interview addressing the noise, Talarico dismissed the claims as false and noted that the situation serves as a cautionary tale about believing everything found on the internet.
