The connection between a person’s bank account, their access to fresh produce and their physical vitality often determines their mental state, according to experts at the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center. To explore these intersections, the center is hosting a public discussion titled Serving the Whole Person as part of its ongoing Nash Cares community education initiative. The goal is to move beyond narrow definitions of healthcare and look at how various social factors combine to shape overall wellness.
A diverse group of professionals will lead the conversation on Wednesday, Oct. 14, bringing together perspectives from finance, nutrition and medicine. The panel features Bert Nash representatives Ian Cook and Dani Edwards alongside Sandra Dixon from LMH Health and Jonathan Smith of Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health. Adding critical layers to the talk on stability and sustenance are Tim Mock from Meritrust Credit Union and Aundrea Walker, who serves as executive director of Just Food.
The gathering takes place at the Community Health Facility located at 200 Maine Street, specifically within the second floor community rooms. Attendees can arrive starting at 5 p.m., with light refreshments served at 5:30 p.m. just before the formal panel begins at 5:45 p.m. While there is no cost to participate in the event, organizers are asking interested residents to RSVP in advance to help them manage space and catering needs for the evening.
