Health officials in Chester County are urging residents to review their vaccination records following reports that an infectious individual visited several popular shopping destinations last week. The Chester County Health Department issued the alert after confirming that a person with measles spent time at three specific locations on Sunday, October 4, during peak afternoon hours.
The potential exposures occurred at the CVS pharmacy on Baltimore Pike in Kennett Square between late morning and mid-afternoon, as well as both the CVS and Giant grocery store located along West Baltimore Pike in West Grove. Because the virus remains active in the air long after an infected person has departed, authorities cautioned that anyone entering these spaces up to two hours after the individual left could have been exposed.
Local health experts are asking community members to determine if they possess immunity through prior infection, birth before 1957, or by having received at least one dose of the MMR vaccine. This localized scare arrives during a challenging period for Pennsylvania, which is currently grappling with its most significant measles surge in decades and has seen over 1,000 confirmed cases statewide.
Those who believe they may be unprotected or are experiencing symptoms are encouraged to contact healthcare providers immediately. For further guidance and detailed information regarding current safety protocols and immunization schedules, residents can find resources available via the official county health website.
